Studying Associate degree in Social Work at the UoC
The Associate Degree in Social Work (AdSW) at the University of Curaçao Dr. Moises da Costa Gomez (UoC) is a two-year higher education program designed to prepare students for a professional career in the social sector. This practice-oriented program combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, equipping students with the tools to make a real difference in their communities. Associate degree Social Work professionals support individuals, families, and groups in overcoming challenges such as poverty, inequality, mental health issues, and social exclusion. The AdSW program focuses on developing practical skills, ethical awareness, and a deep understanding of social structures and human behavior.

Advantages of the Associate Degree in Social Work Program
- Career-Focused Training: the AdSW program is specifically tailored to meet the demands of the labor market. Graduates are well-prepared for entry-level positions in the social services sector.
- Flexible Learning Pathways: this program provides an excellent stepping stone toward a full Bachelor's degree in Social Work.
- Personalized Support: dedicated instructors ensure that students receive the necessary attention and guidance.
- Practical Experience: emphasis on workplace-based learning enables students to directly apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings.
The program is divided into four blocks per academic year and integrates theory with continuous reflection on practice. Workplace learning is a core component of their education until the end of the program. Workplace learning allows students to gain professional experience in social organizations, such as community centers, youth services, elderly care, or rehabilitation programs. Supervised by both a field mentor and university lecturer, students learn to navigate real-life challenges, develop professional competencies, and grow into socially engaged and responsible practitioners. This practical immersion enhances learning, strengthens employability, and builds a strong foundation for a meaningful career in social work.
